Madekwe is from a multi-cultural family. Her birthplace was within South London. Madekwe is English but her father was Nigerian. She went to The Brit School when she was 14 years old. In London she attended The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art where her acting certificate was obtained. While at the academy, she appeared in a number of stage productions such as the King Henry V playing Princess Katherine as well as Wuthering Heights portraying Catherine Earnshaw.
Madekwe's acting career began in the series Storm Damage. In the years since she has appeared in Teachers as well as Doctors. Her first role in a film was Woody Allen's 2007 Cassandra's Dream opposite Colin Farrell, Ewan McGregor. Following this acclaim, she played Elisha on the BBC Three drama pilot West 10 LDN and was featured in six episodes Trexx and Flipside. In 2008, the actress was offered Bambi who was the leading character on ITV2's comedy Secret Diary of a Call Girl. Madekwe was a star in 2008's comedy How to Alienate and Lose Friends. She was also on the screen in Little Sweet Thing, by Roy Williams, and Flight Path, directed by David Watson.
Madekwe had her official US debut in the 2009 Drama series The Beautiful Life, which was only broadcast for The CW before being cancelled. She was cast in February 2011 in the role of Ashley Davenport on the ABC drama Revenge. Madekwe starred as a regular character on the drama series of Revenge on ABC for two seasons. It was revealed in May 2013 that she would be leaving the series following one guest appearance on the initial episode of season three. On the show Salem, she played Tituba between 2014 and 2016. Madekwe married her actor partner Iddo goldberg on June 2012. They have worked together in the show Secret Diary of a Call Girl and also had a role alongside her on the TV series Salem.

Ashley Leggat grew up in Hamilton Ontario with an extended family. Her parents were Roy and Patty along with her older brothers -Rob, Brett, and twins Todd and Bram. All of her brothers were athletic, and they played baseball as well as hockey during the winter as well as in the summer. She grew up in baseball and arenas. Ashley didn't walk, instead she would dance. When she was two and a half, she was introduced to Baby Ballet. Ashley was captivated by dance when she was just a few years old. Ashley competed in ballet, tap and jazz in the high divisions. Additionally, she was awarded best soloist awards at all major dance contests, like the International Dance Challenge, Showstoppers, 56-7-8 Showtime, Flash Dance, Dance, Dance, Dance among others.
